Immerse Australia | Melbourne is the local chapter of Immerse Australia, bringing together developers, creators, enthusiasts, and industry professionals in Melbourne for regular in-person meetups and events.

History and Evolution

This local chapter was originally founded in 2015 as Meetup group, Melbourne VR and is the longest running immersive tech community in Melbourne. It was rebranded to Melbourne Metaverse in 2022 to reflect growing interest in AR/MR, which paved the way for the group to join forces with Immerse Australia in 2023.

Since its inception, the community has been sustained by a succession of volunteer organisers—beginning with the founder, Nathan Beattie and followed by Shaun Norton, Nick Marsh, Steve Hadley and, presently, Amanda Parks. It has played a key role in fostering the growth of the XR industry in Melbourne, facilitating a range of talks, tech demos, networking events, workshops and hackathons.

While the XR industry has grown considerably in recent years, the group's commitment to supporting developers and creators in Melbourne at a grassroots level remains unchanged. Now, as a chapter of Immerse Australia, their learnings can be shared to serve the immersive tech community across the country.
